Listed below are scholarships for freshman and returning or transfer students. Students are considered for all scholarships for which are eligible. You should only complete one application form. Use the appropriate form (freshman, transfer, or returning) for your category. Some scholarships require financial need. You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form to be considered for such scholarships.

For Iowa residents.  Preference shall go to an incoming first-year student who demonstrates a cumulative high school grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.  Must be working towards teacher licensure.  (In the event that a first-year student does not apply, consideration will be given to ISU applicants who demonstrate a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.)

This scholarship shall be awarded to the student for one year only.

For a non-traditional student (age 23 or older) for his/her junior year. Major: elementary education. Requires GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrated financial need (FAFSA), along with statement of financial need or special circumstances. One letter of recommendation is required with the application. The recipient should be a student who has been successful in overcoming multiple barriers, such as family status, employment, dependent responsibilities, financial independence from parents or family, or other circumstances which make it difficult for the student to pursue a teaching degree (as outlined in their statement of financial need).

This scholarship is administered by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction for students participating in a student teaching experience abroad at the elementary school level in a foreign language or who are participating in a foreign language study abroad experience. Preference given to those with demonstrated financial need (FAFSA).

A foreign language study abroad award is renewable for an award for student teaching abroad in the language.

Eligibility Requirement

Student is currently:

Admitted into the ISU Teacher Education Program at the time the award is dispersed.
At the time the award is disbursed, the student must be:
  • Participating in a student teaching experience abroad at the elementary school level in a foreign language or
  • Participating in a foreign language study abroad experience.

  • Majoring in Elementary Education and working toward an endorsement, minor, or double major in a language for which ISU has a filed program with the Iowa Department of Education, or
  • Majoring in Foreign Language Education and working toward a major for which ISU has a filed program with the Iowa Department of Education.
