Applying to Graduate Programs of Curriculum and Instruction
Applying to the Curriculum and Instruction Graduate Program at Iowa State University is a two-part process.

Complete the Graduate Study application form (for US students or International students) |

Send the completed form to the Graduate College along with official copies of transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended |

Complete an application packet for Curriculum & Instruction which includes: |

Three letters of support that address the candidates:
• Written and oral communication skills
• Aptitude for advanced study
• Creative talent
• Potential for successful career
Note: At least one (1) letter should be from a college instructor. |

Transcripts/Academic Status |
| |
|
• Official transcripts from all college coursework;
• Students who believe their transcripts are not representative of their abilities should address this in their narrative. |

Statement of Intent |
| |
|
Statement of Intent includes:
• Goal(s) or purpose for pursuing an advanced degree;
• Reason for selecting Curriculum and Instruction for graduate coursework;
• Professional background, areas of interested specialization, and long-term professional goals.

5. |
Supporting Materials for Selected Programs |
| |
|
The supporting materials are:
• Minimum GRE scores of:
- 400 verbal and 500 quantitative for teacher licensure programs (science M.A.T. and mathematics M.Ed.);
- a combined verbal and quantitative score of 1000 for Ph.D. programs.
• Ph.D. applicants must submit a scholarly writing sample, i.e., thesis, journal article, research paper.
• Special education applicants are required to submit supplementary materials as stated in the Special Education Admission Guidelines.

TOEFL Scores |

|
- International students must submit TOEFL scores of at least 560 (paper test) or 220 (computerized test) or 83 (internet test).

Notes:
Completed application packets for Spring semester admission are due by September 1st, and those for Fall semester are due by January 1st.
Complete application packets include all of the listed materials. The completed application form, application fee, TOEFL score, GRE scores, and original transcripts can be sent to the Office of Admissions.
Letters of support, writing samples, statement of intent, and supplementary materials should be forwarded to Phyllis Kendall (pkendall@iastate.edu) at the address listed at the bottom of this page.

Graduate Assistantships
Graduate Assistantships are not guaranteed. They are awarded on a case by case basis contingent upon funding and areas of need in the Department.
To be considered, submit a resume and a description of your skills, research interests and experiences to Phyllis Kendall (pkendall@iastate.edu).
Also contact faculty in your area of study. Most assistantships come from individual faculty who have grants and are in need of assistance. Another source for financial assistance may be the Office of Financial Aid.
