Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers - PT2

Majors eligible to join:
All entering freshmen elementary education majors are automatically enrolled. Interested freshmen seeking teacher certification in other areas and undecided new freshmen wanting to explore teaching as an option are invited to join.

Program description:
This learning community covers the freshmen year. It is designed to bring together students in majors at Iowa State that will lead to preK-12 teacher certification for service in U.S. schools.  Students will be immersed within an environment rich in coursework, field experiences in settings with school-aged children, and interactions with faculty and staff in teacher education who are preparing tomorrow's leaders for teaching in preK-12 schools.

Over the academic year, students will take courses and have experiences ranging from having a primary focus on helping entering freshmen identify and acquire skills and dispositions on becoming successful college students, to those establishing the foundation for beginning the process of, "Thinking like a Teacher," and helping new language learners learn how to read. Also, they will be paired with teacher practitioners at preK-12 schools where they will gain a sense of what it means to be a teacher and to become aware of diversity in schools.
