b Introduction

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree is designed to prepare students for a career as a scholar in a field of education. It gives students the fundamental knowledge and research/scholarship skills in an area that are needed to become an effective contributor to knowledge about education.

Most students pursue a career as a faculty member in a college or university. Some pursue careers in training and development in business settings; others seek careers that involve research and scholarship in school districts, Area Education Agencies, or other government agencies.

 

b Core Courses

All students admitted to a Ph.D. program in Curriculum and Instruction are required to complete a set of core courses.

b Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) with general specialization

The department offers Ph.D. (with major in education) with general emphasis in Literacy, Mathematics Education, Multicultural Education, Science Education, or Special Education.
