Supporting Teaching and Learning - Learning Environment
Faculty. The faculty has responsibility for developing and modifying the curriculum. The Undergraduate Studies Committee is specifically charged with reviewing the effectiveness of the curriculum and proposing changes to the faculty. The Undergraduate Studies Committee is assisted by the Field Advisory Committee which reviews field experience courses and proposes changes. The Early Childhood Education Coordinating Committee reviews and proposes changes in the ECE curriculum.
Professional development opportunities available to the faculty include: participation in workshop and conferences, Faculty Professional Development Assignments, Miller Fellowships designed to enhance learning and teaching in courses, Instructional Improvement Grants, the Technology Mentoring Program, and a variety of other professional development opportunities. The department’Äôs rubric for annual faculty evaluation includes specific evaluation of teaching and learning improvement efforts.
Budget. The department budget provides for most instructional needs. A variety of resources exist across campus that support instruction (e.g. Library, Information Technology Infrastructure, Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching)
Technology in classrooms. Classrooms in CI typically have instructional display technology (LCD projectors, and video/DVD players). Wireless internet is available. Students are encourage to purchase laptop computers and many instructors utilize such technology in classes. The Center for Technology in Learning and Teaching provides additional resources including computer laboratory, video and photo editing, large poster printing, and instructional materials related to teaching.
