Academics

Programs and Degrees Offered

 

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers three (3) majors for undergraduates: the Elementary Education major, Early Childhood major and Secondary Education major. The Elementary Education major is offered by C&I department while the Early Childhood Education is offered in collaboration with the Department of Human Development and Family Studies.

C&I department provides all of the professional teaching courses for Mathematics, Education, Science Education, and most of these courses for other teacher education majors (K-12 or 7-12 and teacher licensure depending on program.)

Minor: Digital Learning

 

C&I offers the only minor for undergraduate program: the Digital Learning minor. Our Digital Learning minor prepares students to be leaders in the field of educational technology. We are the recipient of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE) Best Practice Award for the Innovative Use of Technology, February 2000.

Learning Community

  Students will have the opportunity to learn collaboratively and receive support from their learning communities. C&I department offers two Learning Community programs: the First Year/First Semester program and the Mentors Project.

Internships/Practica/Student Teaching

  Field experiences is part of the component in our academic programs. Under the University Teacher Education Program (UTEP), students have the opportunity to get first-hand real-world experiences through our Intership/Practica, Student Teaching and International Student Teaching programs.
