Comprised of award-winning faculty
- Patricia Leigh- Dean’s Research Recognition Award 2008.
- Fulbright Scholar Meilin Yao, a professor from Beijing Normal University in China, chose to study at Iowa State with professor Gary Phye to further research on teaching for knowledge transfer.
- Joanne Olson (2005) and Michael Clough (2003) were nationally recognized as Outstanding Science Teacher Educator of the Year by the Association for Science Teacher Education.
- Ann Thompson received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Information Technology and Teacher Education.
- Marcia Harmon Rosenbusch received the Anthony Papalia Award for Excellence in Teacher Education from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
- Gary D. Phye is a Fellow of Division 15 of the American Psychological Association and the American Educational Research Association.
- Four faculty members elected to iowa Academy of Educaion.
- Dr. Thomas Andre, Dr. Barbara Dougherty, Dr. Gary Phye, Dr. Carl R. Smith, and Dr. Ann D. Thompson are the members of IAE. IAE is composed of outstanding Iowa scholars whose work has earned respect and recognition among peers for making a significant contribution to the broad field of educational studies. The Academy’s principal function is to inform educational policies and practices in the state of Iowa through the scholarly consideration and analysis of significant educational issues. Dr. Thompson was elected in 2008 for the Board of Directors of the NCTM, in the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE), National Science Foundation, the US Department of Education, state departments of education.
Leading the nation and the world

Iowa State University College of Human Sciences graduate programs received three top 100 nation rankings in the 2010 edition of “America’s Best Graduate Schools,” published online by U.S. News and World Report magazine - The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS) higher education administration program (13th), ELPS student counseling and personnel services program (18th), and the education graduate program (96th).
- The Iowa State's Teacher Education program will be the first in the nation to prepare undergraduate teacher education students for virtual schooling, with the support of the College of Human Sciences POINTS OF PRIDE from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education in the US Department of Education.
Developing the best scholars
- Graduate students Liesel Hohenshell and Eun-Mi Yang were on the research team that received the Outstanding Paper Award from the National Association for Research in Science Teaching.
