Engagement and Service

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is actively engaged with the field of education.  Our research/scholarship almost invariably involves engagement with collaborators in K-12 schools or in Higher Education.

Value

The wide range of collaborative programs and involvement with educational agencies is the best evidence of the value our constituents place on relationships with C&I.  In addition, follow-up data from teacher education employers indicate that our students are valued.  Such data is available in our institutional report for our research teacher education accreditation and is available upon request.

Constituents

Our natural constituents are educational agencies.  We have partnered with K-12 schools, community colleges, Area Education Agencies (In Iowa regional agencies that provides services to regions of local school districts), the State of Iowa Department of Education and other state agencies, other Departments and Colleges at ISU and other institutions of higher education nationally and internationally.

Responsiveness

In addition to funded projects, our faculty actively contribute to our constituents by membership on committees and by consulting with constituent agencies. Examples of responsive projects are included on the fact sheet. Additional examples include:

  • Service on committees with the Ames School District, Iowa Department of Education
Multiple workshops provided to School Districts each year.
  • Collaborative programs with other Regents’ institution in regard to special education and field experience in teacher education.

The most exhaustive list of such activities is provided in Faculty vita and annual evaluation forms.  These are available if requested for HLC purposes.

Capacity and Commitment

The Departments capacity and commitment is best described on the CI fact sheet linked below.  We support large undergraduate majors.  We have a large graduate program.  We attract significant external funding that enhances our ability to partner to improve education.
