Advisory Committee


  Description: This committee will represent the faculty and staff to the Chair, review departmental issues, review policy development and, at least every five years, review the governance document, recommend changes in policies or the governance document, ensure that department actions are consistent with this governance document and other relevant, duly-enacted policies, help coordinate departmental activities, advise and make recommendations to the Chair, coordinate program reviews, initiate discussion on departmental goals, and serve as liaisons between the department and Chair. In addition, they will make recommendations for college/departmental awards and will help those up for the awards gather and package their materials, as needed.
  Membership: Two representatives each from Groups 1 and 2; one representative each from Groups 3 and 4.

P & T Committee


  Description:

This committee’s major emphasis would be with the promotion and tenure review and the post-tenure review processes. They would help faculty members gather and write their scholarship packages. They could also serve as a Faculty Development Committee for any faculty member who wanted to improve his/her performance in a specific area.

  Membership: Two members each elected from Groups 1 and 2. NOTE: Members have to be tenured faculty members in the department and at least one member shall be a full professor. In addition, one alternate from group 1 and one alternate from group 2 will be elected to serve in case of conflict of interest or other inability of an elected member to review any particular candidate or candidates.  The members of the committee elect one of their number to serve as a member of the College Promotion and Tenure Committee.

Awards, Scholarships, and Recruitment Scholarship Committee


  Description:

This committee has three primary responsibilities:

1) Nominate faculty, staff, and students for university/college/departmental and external awards and, as needed, help those nominated for the awards to gather and prepare their materials for submission; The chair of ASR shall serve as a member of the College Awards Committee.

2) Work with the college scholarship committee in recommending students for scholarships; The committee shall appoint a member to serve on the College Scholarship Committee.

3) Review practice and make recommendations for department recruitment policies, including policies that encourage and facilitate the recruitment of students from underrepresented groups into graduate and undergraduate programs.  As part of this duty, the committee will periodically review the department web page and make recommendations for change.  It will also coordinate with other recruitment efforts on campus such as with the College Minority Liaison Officer and the Graduate College ’s Graduate Minority Assistantship and Scholarship Programs.

  Membership: Four members, to include at least one representative from each of Groups 1, 2, and 3; one additional member from Groups 1 or 2. Members will be appointed for staggered terms initially.

Undergraduate Studies Committee


  Description:

This committee will be responsible for overall curriculum development, catalog changes, course sequence and coordination and assessment; subcommittees may be formed in one or more of these areas to deal with specific issues.  In addition, this committee is responsible to bring forward to the larger department any issue or policy that impacts the undergraduate teacher education program.

  Membership: One representative each from Groups 3 and 4 and two representatives each from Groups 1 and 2. One additional member from either Group 1 or 2. Additional members who have expressed interest may be asked to serve on a specific subcommittee.

Graduate Studies Committee


  Description:

This committee will be responsible for overall curriculum development, catalog changes, course sequence and coordination, and assessment; subcommittees may be formed in one or more of these areas to deal with specific issues. In addition, this committee is responsible to bring forward to the larger department any issue or policy that impacts any graduate program. This committee also is responsible for reviewing and approving each team’s standards for admissions and recommendations for admissions into their program. They would also serve as the “final say” in any grievance procedure brought forward by a student who was not admitted to a specific program. This committee would also oversee orientation programs for graduate students just entering any departmental program, review and recommend students to fill departmental graduate assistantships, and plan and conduct seminars or activities that help with the professional development of our graduate students.

  Membership: Two members each from Groups 1 and 2. Additional members who have expressed an interest may be asked to serve on a specific subcommittee. NOTE: Members have to be on the Graduate Faculty at ISU.

Early Childhood Coordinating Committee


  Description:

The ECCC shall be a joint committee between C&I and HDFS to coordinate our joint administration of the Early Childhood Education major.  This committee shall help to maintain coordination of the programs across the departments including coordinating staffing and scheduling needs, enrollment issues, and other such curricular and administrative needs.  The C&I members of the ECCC shall consist of one member from groups 1, 2, 3.

Field Advisory (UTEP) Committee


  Description:

This committee includes members of the faculty and the field experience staff.  The committee establishes and reviews policies for student teaching and practicum experiences and responds to student requests for special arrangements for field placements.  The committee also gathers and analyzes input from student teachers, ISU supervisors, and cooperating teachers to support continuous improvement of field experiences; results of this work is shared with the Undergraduate Studies Committee and the Department.  The Field Experience Advisory Committee also coordinates field experiences with on-campus courses, collaborates with Regents’ and other institutions on issues related to field experiences, and gathers and shares information related to field experiences with other departmental, college, and university committees.

  Membership: Two members from Group 3 and two additional members selected from Groups 1, 2, and 4.

Computer Advisory Committee


  Description:

This committee allocates student computer fee resources for educational and instructional purposes.  Input is solicited from faculty and students about hardware, software, and maintenance needs within the department.  The committee identifies possible expenditures, prioritizes these, and makes final decisions about the allocation of the student computer fees that are returned to the department.  Students play an important role on this committee because the funds must be allocated to support computer-related expenses associated with classroom instruction or student computing needs.  A faculty/staff member and a student member of this committee serve on the College Computer Advisory Committee.

  Membership: One member each from groups 1 and 2, and one additional member from group 1, 2, or 3.  Each faculty/staff member of the committee will be responsible for identifying an undergraduate or graduate student to serve on the committee.  The College Technical Support person and the CTLT Lab Manager also participate on this committee as ex-officio members.
